You
should not be letting the circumstances you are in define what you become.
You
can change your life no matter what stage in life you are in and you can always
strive to become better and whole.
My
experience during my childhood was not perfect, but that did not mean that I
will stay stuck and be a victim of my circumstances.
I
was suffering from severe migraine headaches when I was in my 30s and when I
traced back the time-line as to when it first started I recalled I was having
headaches when I was in Primary 5 (11 years old). It was not diagnosed migraines. I was diagnosed as being anemia. I was constantly in pain and no one knew of
this. Not my parents, not my siblings,
not my friends, not my teachers. They
only knew something was not quite right when I started vomiting due to the
migraine headaches. Those who suffered
from migraine headaches can relate to this.
It
was only after I had craniosacral therapy, the migraine headaches went
away. My therapist and I discovered that my cranium
bones were out of alignment and compressed.
When this compression was
released and my bones went back into alignment, my migraine headaches were
gone. Totally gone. It never came back (not that I miss it!).
Believe
it or not, my migraine headaches were due to a birth trauma. I asked my mum how was my birth like and she described
my birth as very fast with one last big push and I was out.
Yes, I was born at home and it was a biological natural birth. I
guess she did not realized that I was stuck and she used extreme force to push
me out. Imagine, I was stuck in the birth canal, not given enough
time to negotiate, twist and turn through a birth canal for a smooth birth. The traumatic experience of being compressed
extremely forcefully and being expelled out with great force at birth led me to having migraine headaches in my childhood and early adult life.
Having
learned about birth trauma and how to help mothers and baby discharge residual
birth process experience, I started offering Craniosacral Therapy to mothers
and babies.
The
nature of our birth (whether “natural” or otherwise), in some form or other, play
an important fundamental role in determining every aspect of our nature. We may start life with a high primal base line of our autonomic nervous system, which could led us to be constantly on the alert. Our physical constitution, our underlying level of health and strength, our mental
ability, and our emotional stability, may be compromised. Compression, tension and restriction around
the base of the skull may significantly restrict blood supply to the brain,
with profound consequences on brain development, affecting our intelligence,
our memory, our academic ability, and consequently whether we are more artistic,
creative or mathematically minded.
In
my case, birth trauma contributed to a susceptibility to migraine headaches and
as well as influencing the development of all my body systems – the nervous
system, the digestive system, the endocrine system and the immune system.
If you feel you do
not have an ideal birth experience, do consider Craniosacral Therapy for both
yourself and your baby. In the
Craniosacral Therapy context, we orient to releasing and resolving trauma
energy, allowing your nervous system to potentially self-regulate, repairing damage,
restoring and reconnecting to the health matrix in your body, and amidst all of
this, you get to acknowledge your birth experience as it was and move forward
to feeling re-energised, rejuvenated and self-regulated to a state of calm and wholeness
for yourself and your baby.
