I was helping a friend with her injured hand. She tripped and broke her fall with her arm
and after that incident she began to have stiffness and pain in her left
hand. This led to carpal tunnel syndrome.
While some people seek relief through surgical means, my
friend opted for non-invasive treatments like tui na, and massages without much
improvement and the pain kept recurring.
Finally she decided to try craniosacral therapy and
after one session the stiffness in her fingers were gone. She came back for another two sessions and
now she is pain free. I wished I had
taken photos of your hand before the craniosacral session as it was amazing to
see that the carpal bones realign themselves.
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Most people who complain of wrist pain rarely know
what exactly carpal tunnel syndrome feels like. Typically, the median nerve is
compressed due to swelling and bony misalignments of the wrist, sufferers have
reported burning pain, tingling, or swelling in the fingers and wrist. Sometimes they notice numbness and a weakness
throughout the affected hand.
The following are things that may lead to carpal
tunnel syndrome:
- Repeated movement that overextends the wrist
- Poor positioning of your wrists when typing or using the mouse at your
computer
- Repetitive handling of tools that vibrates
- Water retention and fluid build up in the wrists and hands during pregnancy or menopause
- Trauma/injury to the wrist
In this instance, Craniosacral Therapy potentially
helps to release the fascia restrictions of the hand and wrist. When there is connective tissue glide, the tension
and pressure to the nerves, blood vessels and lymphatic vessels releases and the bones realign themselves.
