I have been asked “Are you not concern about the COVID-19?” “I don’t see any postings about coronavirus
on your page”
News reports are news. No matter
how scary the environment is, we have a choice to take care of ourselves. There are many steps you can take and the
rest is up to God. So how am I preparing
for the coronavirus?
Firstly, I take responsibility for myself. When I behave responsibly and I take care of
myself, my family benefits and the community benefits.
Why panic? The panic buying of
face masks, hand sanitizers, food, toilet paper, etc. happens when you fear the
worse is going to happen. This fear
response leads to anxiety and stress.
When this happens, your body immunity is going to be compromised. You can get sick faster and your recovery is
slow.
Pause, breathe and start listening to your body.
When you pause and slow down, you allow yourself to assess the
situation. You are reacting from a place
of calm and focus, and not fear and chaos.
Pause not only promote relaxation, it also gives your nervous system a
chance to REGAIN balance.
Breathing and counting to 10. Inhale
and exhale. Slowing down your breathing
can change your perception of the situation.
It also helps to calm down your nervous system.
Start listening to your body. Is
your breathing regular or fast? Deep or
shallow? How is your emotion? Can you proceed with mindfulness, compassion
and kindness or are you responding robotically?
This 3 steps process is designed to give you tools to:
1. Connect and become aware of your body’s responses to stressors
2. Become aware of patterns of stress and relaxation in your body
3. Rewire your brain to create change in your life
4. Reduce stress and anxiety
5. Improve health and wellness
6. Learn compassion and mindfulness
Exercise
hygiene. Washing your hands regularly with soap and
water. Wash your hands when you are
handling food.
I make it a
habit to wash my hands before I make contact with my clients and after the
treatment sessions. I also put on a
face mask whenever my throat feels dry and sore. I do not work when I feel unwell.
I continue to take vitamin supplements
and increase my intake of Vitamin C and probiotic.
Sleep is important. Rest well and it is during sleep that our
body starts to unwind and our brain starts to repair itself. Listen to your
body, when you feel tired, rest.
I also take the precaution of informing my clients not to show
up for treatments if they
feel unwell or have respiratory symptoms (eg. Running nose, cough, shortness of
breath, cough) or fever.
